Nagarkot

Nagarkot is a very popular tourist destination offering a view of the entire Langtang range. The sunrise and sunset from Nagarkot is unparalleled and is famous all over for its reputation. Nagarkot is a lovely and perfect place for people who are looking out for an ideal hike where on the way one can see the majestic panoramic view of the Himalayan ranges from Dhaulagiri in the west the Langtang, Dorge lakpa, Gauri Shankar in the central and Mt. Everest in the east.

Very few know that Nagarkot is the centre point of the country with the trigonometric station to measure the distance between borders.A good amount of snowfall can also be seen from November to February in Nagrakot and the nearby location Pulchowki. Nagarkot falls in between the Kathmandu and the Indravati valley overlooking the Kathmandu valley and under the shadow of the Himalayan range. Of the 800 km’s mountain range that Nepal boasts from some 500kms can seen from Nagarkot. The view from the tower near the Army camp is unbeatable and amazing.

How to reach up to Nagarkot

Cars/Buses are the best ways to reach up to Nagarkot. Tourist shuttle buses operated by private tour operators and even hotels are operated on a daily basis.

There are also buses and mini buses that start from Bhaktapur, which charge 50 bucks and take you all the way up to Nagarkot. But they are extremely crowded and dirty. The journey from the International Airport would be an hour depending on the rush hour. You are taken through the old valley of Bhaktapur which is breath taking.
 
Walking or even hiking can be exciting option, but you are advised to carry all the necessary supplies with you.

Nagarkot falls in between the Kathmandu and the Indravati valley overlooking the Kathmandu valley and under the shadow of the Himalayan range. From Nagarkot, one see the breathtaking views of the major Himalayan peaks of Nepal like Manaslu, Ganesh, Langtang, dorje Lakpa, sisa pagma, Choyu, Gauri Shankar, etc. On a clear crystal day, one can even see the tip of Mt. Everest (8848 m) from here. Many tourists go to Nagarkot at afternoon, stay at one of the resorts to view early morning sunrise over the mountains. Very few know that Nagarkot is the centre point of the country with the trigonometric station to measure the distance between borders. Nagarkot is also the place where back in the day research was done on celestial bodies like planets, stars, moon and even the sun.

The tower centre is open 24 hours with surveillance at all time. People who love looking at the mountains find the way up the hill to Nagarkot to look at the break of dusk and dawn. Some even come for a night stay which is sufficient given the attractions around.

Everything is easily available from local Wifi hotspot to transportation. There are plenty of local restaurants or shacks around for hygienic and tasty food. All these places are family restaurants and serve domestic and some in international liquor. For anything upscale you can go to Berg House Café or Tea house Inn. There are hardly any shops around for souvenirs but there are plenty for snacks and cold drinks sold at a slightly higher price.

There are some taxi’s standing on hold which will charge exorbitantly high to commute within the area, so we suggest take you own transportation or walk.

There is internet around the area and check with the local people where you can find it. Club Himalayan(14410432) at windy hills Nagarkotis the ideal place for an overnight stay which is steeply priced but worth the stay. There are plenty of other good lodges around which you can check with your hotels in Kathmandu or any local guides.
